Researchers Are Creating A Portable Device for TBI Diagnosis

A new device is being developed by researchers from Singapore and the United States to immediately diagnose traumatic brain injury.

Today Online has announced that teams from Singapore’s Institute of Microelectronics (IME) and SFC Fluidics, a US bio-medical device development company, have joined together to create a device that will be able to read up to three biomarkers released by the brain after a traumatic injury.

All it will take to look for injury is a drop of blood, and the readings will be displayed on a simple screen. The findings will alert caregivers to the severity of the injury, even at the scene of the accident.

The best part of this device is the goal is to make it easy enough to use to not require trained personnel. This means anyone who has possibly sustained TBI from car wreck victims to JV football players will be able to quickly and easily be tested.
