Individuals who sustain a brain injury often develop unacceptable behaviors related to decreased cognitive functioning, changes in lifestyle and impaired impulse control.  Many times these individuals and their families are unable to manage these behaviors which results in inappropriate hospitalization.

Brookhaven also specializes in the treatment of individuals who have substance abuse problems in addition to neurological impairments.  A team of qualified professionals provide treatment for those with alcohol and drug problems.

Brookhaven has been successful in treating difficult to place patients with behavioral disturbances by combining the best of proven traditional approaches with state-of-the-art rehabilitative techniques.  Education for all family members is an integral part of our program.  Our secured unit provides an atmosphere of structure and decreased stimulation, thus allowing the individual to experience a sense of support and well-being.

Admission criteria:

  • Persons age 18 and older with a primary diagnosis of Traumatic Brain Injury or acquired neurologic problem.

  • Individuals exhibiting behavioral problems secondary to an acquired neurologic problem.
