Medicaid Brain Injury Waiver Program

As a Medicaid case supervisor or state head injury administrator, you know how difficult it is to find an appropriate facility that can serve the needs of clients with severe brain injuries accompanied by neurobehavioral, psychiatric or substance abuse problems.

Often, these individuals have long histories of violent and aggressive behaviors. Many of them have had numerous encounters with law enforcement—or may even be currently incarcerated. Frequently, they have a history of failed rehabilitation placements followed by crisis situations in hospital emergency rooms and other healthcare institutions.

In many cases, the families of these individuals are physically and financially exhausted and unable to provide further housing or support. Typically, this individual is many years past the initial brain injury and has not been manageable in a community setting for quite some time.

Clearly, these are some of the most difficult cases faced by social workers, case supervisors or state head injury administrators. The good news is: there is a trusted resource ready to assist you in placing clients in a high quality neuro-rehabilitation program specifically designed to address the behavioral, psychiatric and substance abuse issues related to brain injury.

The Neurologic Rehabilitation Institute at Brookhaven Hospital (NRI) is an internationally recognized neurobehavioral program that serves patients from all over America and some foreign countries. We have out-of-state Medicaid contracts in place with a number of states, and we’re ready to assist you in the placement needs of your most difficult brain injury cases.

NRI’s highly individualized neurobehavioral program includes:

NRI: A History of Successful Outcomes

NRI has a reputation for successful outcomes—with a high percentage of our discharged clients returning to their home states and living fulfilling lives in non-institutional, community settings.

Our brain injury case managers and nurse evaluators are available to conduct an assessment of your client in his or her current placement and will provide you with a customized projected treatment plan at no cost. In addition, our administrative staff will work with you on contract and rate development to further expedite the admissions process.

We understand that people with a brain injury and related neurobehavioral, psychiatric or substance abuse problems are difficult to place in a rehabilitation program—that’s why we created the Neurologic Rehabilitation Institute at Brookhaven Hospital. NRI is fully-accredited CARF [Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities] facility, and we are also accredited by JCAHO, the Joint Commission on Accreditation for Hospital Organizations. Brookhaven Hospital is also licensed by the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

It offers a 64-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility, and transitional and community living programs designed to help individuals make the transition to a life of independence and fulfillment.
